Petr Eben International Organ Competition is postponed by two years


The competition is open to candidates from all countries who will be aged 30 years or less on the first day of the competition (born on or after 26 October 1990). The competition consists of three rounds and will be held at the Petr Bezruč Library (1st Round), the Church of the Holy Spirit (2nd Round), and the Church of St. Vojtěch (3rd Round).

Competition Rules


is a part of the competition which is independent of the performance section. The competition is open to candidates from all countries who will be aged 30 years or less on the first day of the competition (born on or after 26th of October 1990). The competition will be held at the Church of St. Vojtěch.

In 2020, the improvisation competition is dedicated to the memory of the late organist and improviser Aleš Rybka, one of the founders of the Opava Young Organists Competition in 1978.



  • 1st prize: CZK 50.000
  • 2nd prize: CZK 30.000
  • 3rd prize: CZK 15.000
  • Improvisation: CZK 5.000

Special Prize awarded by the Czech Music Foundation (CMF) for the best performance of a composition by Petr Eben interpreted in the 3rd round. The Jury may (with the exception of the 1st Prize, the Improvisation prizes, and the CMF Prize) divided the prize monies.

  • Professional engagement at the "Chorzowski Festiwal Muzyki Organowej i Kameralnej ORGANY PLUS" – Prize awarded by the Musica Polonia Fundation – October 2021

Competition organisation

The competition will be held from October 26 to 31, 2020 at the Petr Bezruč Library, Opava (1st Round), at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Opava (2nd Round), and at the Church of St. Vojtěch, Opava (3rd Round). The Improvisation competition will be held on 28th October 2018 at the Church of St. Vojtěch, Opava. The performances of candidates will be evaluated by a jury of experts appointed by the competition organisers. All competition rounds and the competitor's names are public. At the end of the competition, a public concert will be held in the Church of St. Vojtěch in Opava, at which competition prizes will be awarded and winners will perform a concert programme devised by the Jury. Performers will not be entitled to remuneration for their participation. The competition proceedings and jurors ́duties are set out in the "Rules of Procedure and Organisation of the 21st Petr Eben International Organ Competition 2020."

Entry fees

Performance: CZK 1.500 / EUR 60

Improvisation: CZK 500 / EUR 20

There is no entry fee in the category Improvisation. Fill in the electronic application form on the competition website by  15th June 2020 (attach a proof of payment and an ID photograph in the JPG format, minimum resolution 800x1020px). The entry fee is non-refundable. The competition participants cover their accommodation and travel costs.
